Ingredients

20 minutes
12 pieces
  1. 4 sliceswhole wheat or white bread
  2. 7 ouncessalted butter (about 200 grams)
  3. 1/2 cuppowdered sugar

Cooking Instructions

20 minutes
  1. 1

Cut each slice of whole wheat bread into 3 equal pieces, either vertically or horizontally. After cutting, let them air out or sun-dry for a bit to make them crispier for longer.

  2. 2

Spread a thin layer of salted butter on each piece of bread, then sprinkle powdered sugar evenly over them. Tap off any excess sugar, or dip the buttered bread into a container of sugar to coat it completely. Repeat until all pieces are done.

  3. 3

Arrange the bread on the rack of a convection oven. Set the temperature to 300°F (150°C) and bake for 10-15 minutes. (Claire suggests baking the bottom pieces for an additional 5 minutes after removing the top rack of golden-brown bread to ensure even coloring.) You can use the same temperature and time for a regular oven.

  4. 4

Once crispy, serve immediately or store in a jar or plastic bag for later enjoyment.
