Sweet Korean Hotteoks

Growing up in a half Korean household, my mom would take me to the Korean supermarket nearly every weekend. I always asked for sweets and she insisted I eat the bean paste rice cake. So after so many years of waiting, I finally learned how to make a few Korean desserts.
Hotteok is a Korean pancake which could have a sweet or savory filling. It’s a popular street food in Korea.
I made the sweet version filled with nuts, sugar, cinnamon, and an added bonus of mashed bananas for my notorious family of sweet lovers who never say no to sweets.

Steps
- 1
In a large bowl mix flour. sugar and salt.
- 2
In warm milk add in your yeast and allow to sit for a few minutes.
- 3
Add your milk mixture with dry ingredients.
- 4
Mix until combined or gently pulls away from the bowl but a little sticky.
- 5
In a lightly oiled bowl add dough and cover for an hour or until doubled it's size.
- 6
Punch down the dough to release the gas.
- 7
Pour a little bit of oil on the counter station and place the dough on top.
- 8
Roll into a log cutting them into 6 equal pieces forming a ball.
- 9
Flatten the ball on the counter or placing it on your palm.
- 10
Add about 1 Tablespoon of filling in the middle.
- 11
Now seal the deal by pulling the dough up and sealing the edges. (after I seal it I make a twist to hold the filling) Seam side down.
- 12
On medium heat add enough oil to cover the bottom of pan.
- 13
Place 1 or 2 balls seam side down and press the dough down to flatten using a spatula or a press.
- 14
Brown both sides and serve.
- 15
Be careful while biting into the hotteok it's hot but at the same time damn good.
- 16
Notes: Use any nuts you like. If the filling is not fully melted place a lid on the pan and lower the temperature for a few minutes.
