Ingredients

12-15 minutes
3-4 servings
  • 1 cuprice ( soaked into water for 20-25 minutes
  • 1/2 cuptoor dal (soaked into water for 20-25 minutes)
  • 2medium potatoes cut into medium size cubes
  • 1 tspmustard seeds
  • 1 tspcumin seeds
  • 1/4 tspasafoetida
  • 2dry red Chilli
  • 2 inchcinnamon stick
  • 3-4cloves
  • 1bay leaf
  • 10-12curry leaves
  • 1 tbsppeanuts
  • 1medium size onion slices
  • 1big tomato chopped
  • 1 tspred Chilli powder
  • 1/2 tspturmeric powder
  • 2green chillies(optional)
  • 1 tbspcoriander leaves
  • 1 tspginger garlic paste
  • Salt as per taste
  • For ground masala:-
  • 1onion
  • 3-4 inchdry coconut piece
  • 4-5garlic cloves
  • 2 tbspcoriander leaves
  • 1/4 cupoil

Steps

12-15 minutes
  1. 1

    First for making prepared ground masala,roast the onion with peel and coconut piece on iron tawa or directly gas burner until they turn brown. Then cool it and discard the onion 's peel. In a grinding jar add roasted coconut,onion,coriander leaves and garlic and grind them. Keep aside.

    In a pressure cooker add oil. When oil heated add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, safoetida,cloves,cinnamon stick and bay leaf.Saute few seconds then add curry leaves,dry red chilli and peanuts saute 30-40 seconds.

    Add sliced onion cook till it turn light golden add ginger garlic paste cook 1 minutes then add chopped tomatoes and potatoes.

    Add red Chilli powder, turmeric powder, salt and ground paste. Mix and add 2 tbsp water cook for 1-2 minute. Drain thr water of soaked rice and dal and add them with spices.

    Stir gently with spices and add 2 cups of water, add coriander leaves and green Chilli. Adjust thr salt at this stage. When it started boiling cover the lid and cook on high flame for one whistle then turn the flame medium and cook for 2 whistle. Turn off the flame and released the pressure naturally.

    Open the lid the khichdi has done. Served the khichdi with chutney,pickle and curd.
