Ingredients

  • 1/2 cupWashed and soaked Tuvar daal
    Rajma Chawal Home style
  • 1/2 cupWashed and soaked rice
  • 2 tspTurmeric powder
    Upma (Karnataka Kaara Bhath)
  • 2 tbsp + 1 tbspCooking oil 2 tablespoon
  • 1Potato cut in cubes
  • 1Carrot cut in cubes
  • 8Beans cut small
  • 1/4 cupGreen peas
  • 1Tomato cut into cubes
  • 1Onion cut in cubes
  • 1 tablespoonGhee
  • 2 tspMustard seeds
  • 3Dry Red Chillies
  • 10Cashews
  • 10Curry leaves
  • 1/2 tspHing
  • 1 tspChana daal
  • 1 tspUrad dal
  • 1 tablespoonPea nuts
  • 1/2 cupTamarind water
  • 1 tspJaggery
  • 3-4 tablespoonsBisi bele bhat masala
  • 1 tspChilli powder
  • as requiredSalt to taste
  • 1 cupWater
  • as requiredChopped coriander leaves to garnish
  • as requiredTo serve: lentil and puffed rice mixture

Steps

30 minutes
  1. 1

    First, wash and soak the daal and rice separately. Then drain and put in pressure cooker allong with 1 tsp turmeric powder and 1 tsp oil. Add 3 cups water. Pressure cook till 4 to 5 whistles. Then cool till pressure is released.

  2. 2

    In another pan, heat rest of the oil. Add 1/2 portions of mentioned mustard seeds, Chana daal, urad daal, hing, curry leaves, dry red chillies and saute till crisp.

  3. 3

    Then add onions, peanuts, and saute well. Then mix in all the vegetables and stir well. Add turmeric powder, salt and 1 cup water. Cover and cook well till all the vegetables are soft.

  4. 4

    Then add the tamarind water, jaggery, bisi bele bhat masala (I used MTR) and combine well. Add cooked rice,daal, salt, chill powder and mix. Cover and cook for 10 minutes.

  5. 5

    Now the Bisibele bhat is cooked. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves. Serve hot with ghee on top accompanied by crunchy and spicy mixture. Enjoy
