Ingredients

10 minutes
6 servings
  • To grind:
  • 1 1/2 cupRice
  • 1/2 cupToor dal
  • 1/4 cupUrad dal
  • 1/4 cupMoong cal
  • 1/2 cupBengal gram
  • 7-8Dry Red chilli
  • 1 inchGinger
  • 1 tspFennel seeds
  • 1/2 tspTurmeric
  • To tasteSalt
  • To temper:
  • 1/2 tspMustard seeds
  • 1/2 tspAsafoetida/hing
  • 1/2 tspOil
  • 1 cupSambar onion/ shallots (chopped roughly)
  • 2 sprigCurry leaves
  • 1/2 bunchCoorinder leaves
  • 1 bunchDrumstick leaves/ moringa leaves
  • 1/2 cupCoconut pieces/ grated
  • To tasteSalt

Steps

10 minutes
  1. 1

    Soak rice, toor dal, urad dal, bengal gram, red chilli, fennel seeds together about 3 hrs.   

  2. 2

    Grind them into little coarse batter Add turmeric powder and salt to the batter. 

  3. 3

    Batter should not be too thick or thin. Heat oil in a pan, add musterd seeds, when it starts to splatter add hing, curry leaves, onion.

  4. 4

    Onion should not be over cooked.

  5. 5

    Add drumstick leaves and salt. Cook for about 5 minutes.

  6. 6

    Once cooked mix them with the batter.

  7. 7

    Add coorinder leaves and coconut to batter before making dosa. Adjust the salt.

  8. 8

    Heat the dosa tawa and pour the batter to make Dosas. Use gingerly oil or coconut oil or ghee to make dosa.

  9. 9

    Serve hot with butter, jaggery and aviyal.
