Ingredients

  • 4Potatoes cut and cubed
  • 2Bay leaves (Tej patta)
  • 15Black pepper corn (Kaali mirch)
  • 1Big black elaichi
  • 3Green Cardamoms (Hari elaichi)
  • 1Javetri
  • 2Star
  • 1Cinnamon stick. (Dal Chinni)
  • 5Cloves. (Laung)
  • 2 cupsBasmati rice paraboiled
  • 3 TablespoonsGhee
  • 3Onions Big sized finely sliced and deep fried. (2 portions)
  • 2Tomatoes medium sized finely chopped
  • 1 TablespoonGinger-garlic paste
  • 1 TeaspoonRed Chilli powder
  • 1/4 TeaspoonTurmeric powder
  • 1 TeaspoonGaram Masala powder
  • 1/2 CupCurd
  • 2 TablespoonsFresh Coriander leaves
  • 1Lemon portion juice
  • to tasteSalt

Steps

  1. 1

    Heat 2 tablespoons of ghee in a kadai, Add green cardamoms, cinnamon, black peppercorns, cloves, Javetri, star, black elayichi and bay leaves and sauté them all till fragrant. Add one portion of deep fried others and other keep it aside for further step.

    Add tomatoes, ginger-garlic paste and sauté till the tomatoes are pulpy.Add red chilli powder, turmeric powder and salt and saute, Add curd and mix well.

    Now add half the fried onion of portion left, 1 Tablespoon coriander leaves, lemon juice and potatoes Add ½ cup water and mix well. Spread a layer of rice over the potato curry in the kadai, sprinkle remaining coriander leaves and mint leaves (optional) over it. Spread the remaining deep fried onion and rice over it.

    Sprinkle garam masala powder and drizzle the remaining ghee all around, cover and cook on high heat for 5 minutes. lower the heat and cook for 4-5 minutes. Serve hot.
