Ingredients

  1. 1/2 cupsemolina (thin one) lightly roasted
  2. 1small carrot, chopped in 1/2 to 1 inch size
  3. 1/4 cup chopped onion
  4. 2tomatoes, chopped
  5. 1 tspgrated ginger
  6. 1green chilli chopped
  7. 1/4 cupchopped green coriander leaves
  8. 1 tsp eachoil and ghee
  9. 1/2 tspmustard seeds
  10. 1 tspchana dal
  11. 1 Tbspurad dal
  12. 1 pinchhing powder
  13. As per tasteSalt
  14. 1 /4 cup +2 tbspwater
  15. 1/2 tsplemon juice

Cooking Instructions

    Heat oil and ghee on a pan. Add mustard seeds and allow to splutter.

    Add both the dal and saute for half minute.

  3. 3

    Mix hing, chopped carrot,onion, green chili and ginger and cook for two minutes.

    Add chopped tomatoes and salt and cook till they are soft and mushy.

    Pour the water. Cover, let it boil.

  6. 6

    Slow down the flame and add roasted sooji gradually and continuously stirring on low flame avoiding formation of lumps.

    Switch off the flame and mix the lemon juice.

  8. 8

    The semolina absorbs water and make a mass of upma. Serve hot. No need of side dish like sambar/chutney, as the Upma is soft, flavoured and tangy.
