I packed these into my daughter's bento.
It'll thaw most of the way and be ready to use in the time it takes to finish bento preparations.

I used a 10 cm long chikuwa and cut it into fourths. I used 1/4 of a carrot cut down to 3 cm. I also used 3 cm of a cucumber.
I used mayonnaise to flavor and to lubricate the fillings.
For adults, you could use a wasabi mayo sauce, or ichimi spice and mayo sauce.
For children, you could drizzle with melted cheese. Recipe by Misuke mama chan

Ingredients

  1. 1Chikuwa
  2. 1Cucumber (julienned)
  3. 1Carrot (julienned)
  4. 1Mayonnaise

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

Cut the chikuwa at a diagonal to match the height of the bento box. Julienne the cucumber and carrots to fit in the chikuwa hole. See Hints.

  2. 2

Bundle up some carrot and cucumber together, dip the tips in a little mayonnaise, and pack into the chikuwa. If there are still any crevices in the chikuwa, add in more carrots or cucumber while keeping color coordination in mind.

  3. 3

Tap the top portion on top of a cutting board to adjust the lengths, and it's done.
