A famous recipe in Syria. Very tasty and crispy. The pomegrant adds a special flavour to the meat mixture. I added some pine kernels on top and it was fabulous .. A weekend must have !!

Ingredients

  1. Dough
  2. 3 cupAll purpose flour
  3. 1 tspBaking powder
  4. 2 tspSalt
  5. 1 tspSugar
  6. 1 tbspVegetable oil.
  7. 1 cupWarm water
  8. Stuffing
  9. 500 gramsGrounded meat
  10. 1 mediumonion
  11. 1/2 cupPomegrant sauce
  12. 1 tspSalt
  13. 1 tspPepper
  14. Layering
  15. 250 gramsButter

Cooking Instructions

    For the dough, combine all dry ingredients, add oil and stirr, then add water as needed and knead , the dough should be soft and pliable .

    Let it rest for half an hour.

    Meanwhile combine the onion,salt,pepper and pomegrant sauce in the food procesor. When fully combined add the mixture to the meat and mix all together.

    When the dough is ready... Cut it into large pieces (about 5pieces), spread it as a tube and cut again into pieces 2 inches long .

    Melt the butter. Don't over heat ..

    Dip the dough piceses in the melted butter .. And let it rest for 20 minutes.

    Roll up the pieces longitudinally.. Spread with butter and close like a book ... Repeat it with all the dough.

    Let it rest for another 20 minutes.

    Meanwhile preheat your oven to 400°F.

    Now the dough is ready .. Take every piece (it should look like a book ), stretch it as long as you can, spread butter on it and roll it over (like cinnamon bread).

    When you finish all the dough, start taking your rolls press them vertically to get them to be flat like a dish.

    Add the stuffing over each one and lay them in a well greased tray.

    Bake them for 10-15 minutes or till they get golden and crispy ..

    Serve warm with jogurt or green salad.
