  1. 1/2 cupBroken wheat
  2. 1 teaspoonGhee
  3. 1/4 teaspoonMustard
  4. 1Dried red chilli
  5. 1/4 teaspoonUrad dal
  6. 1 tablespoonCashew chopped
  7. 1 pinch- Hing / asafoetida
  8. 1 pinch- Turmeric powder
  9. 1/4 cupOnion, finely chopped
  10. 1/2 teaspoonGinger, finely chopped
  11. 1 sprigCurry leaves -
  12. 1, finely chopped Green chilli
  13. 1, finely grated Carrot
  14. As per taste - Salt
  15. 1 1/4 cupWater

Cooking Instructions

    Rinse the broken wheat and drain well.

    Heat ghee in a pan. Splutter mustard seeds and fry dried chilli, urad dal and cashews. When cashews turn golden, add a pinch of hing. Stir for few seconds.

    Now add in onion, ginger, green chilli, curry leaves, carrot. Stir until onion turns transparent. Add turmeric powder and mix well. Saute for a minute.

    Add the broken wheat. Mix well. Fry the broken wheat for 3 - 4 minutes.

    Add water and salt. Mix well. Cover and cook for about 15 minutes or until done.

    Broken wheat upma is ready!!
