Kissaten Style Ham and Cucumber Toasted Sandwich

This is the sandwich my mother used to make when she worked at a kissaten. It's a comforting taste that I've loved since I was a child.

For a grown-up taste, try using karashi-mayonnaise (mayonnaise mixed with Japanese mustard) instead of regular mayonnaise. Recipe by Nanaiku

Ingredients

  1. 2 sliceSliced bread
  2. 3 sliceHam
  3. 4diagonally cut slices Cucumber
  4. 1Margarine
  5. 1Mayonnaise
  6. 1 dashSalt

Cooking Instructions

    Using a long diagonal angle, cut 4 slices of cucumber.

    Toast 2 slices of bread in a toaster or toaster oven. With the shortest edge facing you, spread each piece first with margarine, then with mayonnaise.

    On one slice, place three slices of ham, shifting them top to bottom, from one edge to the other, then arrange the cucumber slices on top.

    Place the other slice of bread on top.

  5. 5

    Slice off the crust from the long edges.

  6. 6

    Cut the sandwich at a slight angle, transfer to a serving dish, then serve.
