I couldn't forget the sweet and salty side dish that I ate in a department store food hall. I tried recreating it using honey.

Ingredients

2 servings
  1. 2Burdock roots
  2. 1Katakuriko
  3. 1Olive oil
  4. The sauce ingredients:
  5. 1 tbspSoy sauce
  6. 1 tbspMirin
  7. 2 tspCooking sake (optional)
  8. 2 tbspHoney
  9. 2 tspGround sesame seeds (white)
  10. 2 tspToasted white sesame seeds
  11. 1Red chili peppers (sliced into rounds)

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Chop the burdock roots with the skin on into pieces, and soak in water.

  2. 2

    Drain the excess water, and lightly coat with katakuriko. Shallow-fry in olive oil.

  3. 3

    Simmer the sauce ingredients in the pan.

  4. 4

    Add the Step 3 burdock roots to the pan, mix with the sauce, and you're done.
