Dough for tortillas & dumplings : combine all the ingredients for the dough,add oil & make semi-soft dough Cover & rest the dough for 15 minutes.

Keep little dough aside for the dumplings.Now divide rest of the dough into 5 equal size balls. Roll into thin rotis. Semi cook these rotis for a few seconds on hot girdle. Remove. Cool a little & cut into diamond shape pieces.

For the dumplings : With the same dough make very tiny balls. Roll them the size of puris & put 1/ 2 t.spoon stuffing in the centre. Bring all the ends together & close the ball.It will resemble small kachori. Remove the extra dough from the top.

Heat water in a small pan. Cook all the kachoris in hot water for 5 minutes. Do not touch them or they will break.Switch off the gas.Set the kachoris with the water aside.

Mater dal : Take dal & wash it 2 -3 times. Soak it in hot water for 15 minutes. Drain the water & add fresh water in the dal & pressure cook it for 3 whistles. Cool & remove the dal from pressure cooker & whisk it well till smooth.

Take the dal in a pan.Add 11/2 cups hot water & blend well.Add
tomatoes, grated ginger, kokam jaggery, & soaked raw peanuts & coriander. Boil for 10 minutes. - 7
Just 10 minutes before serving, add the semi- cooked kachoris & diamond shaped dhoklis in the the
boiling dal & boil very well. - 8
Tempering : Heat clarified butter in a small pan, add mustard seeds, cloves & cinnamon stick let them splutter. Add asafoetida & immediately pour the tempering on the boiling dal. Mix & serve immediately.
