  8. 1Organic Grass-fed Egg
  9. 1Small Onion, roughly chopped
  10. 1 BunchScallions, roughly chopped
  11. 1 tspSalt
  12. 1 tspBlack Pepper
  13. 2 tbspSoy Sauce
  14. 1 tbspDark Soy Sauce
  15. 1 tbspOyster Sauce
  16. 1 tspChinese Five-spice Powder
  17. 3 tbspSesame Oil

Cooking Instructions

1.5 hour
  1. 1

    Make the Dough:

In a large bowl, combine all-purpose flour, salt, yeast, and warm water.
    • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
    • Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place until it doubles in size, about 1 hour.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Filling:

    • In a food processor, combine ground beef, egg, onion, scallions, salt, black pepper, five-spice powder, soy sauces, oyster sauce, and sesame oil.
    • Blend until well mixed, then set aside.

  3. 3

    Shape the Dough:

    • After the dough has risen, punch it down to release air bubbles.
    • Roll the dough into a long log and divide it into 21 pieces (each piece should weigh about 35 g).
    • Roll each piece into a round wrapper, making the edges thinner than the center.

  4. 4

    Fill and Seal:

    • Place a spoonful of the filling in the center of each wrapper.
    • Pinch the edges together to seal, forming a pleated baozi. Make sure the seal is tight to prevent it from opening during steaming.

  5. 5

    Let the Baozi Rise Again:

    • Place the filled baozi on parchment paper in the steamer basket, leaving space between each one.
    • Cover the steamer with the lid and let the baozi rise until they double in size and become light and puffy.

  6. 6

    Steam the Baozi:

    • Bring a pot of water to a boil and place the steamer basket over it.
    • Steam over high heat for 12-15 minutes, then turn off the heat and let them rest for 3 minutes before opening the lid. Enjoy!
