Ingredients

  1. 1 cupBasmati rice
  2. 1 tbspcooking oil
  3. 1 tspMustard seeds
  4. 1/4 tspAsafoetida
  5. 1 tspSplit black gram
  6. 1 tspChana dal / bengal gram
  7. 1Red Chilli
  8. 1green chilli split
  9. 1 tablespoonPeanuts
  10. 1/2 tspTurmeric powder
  11. 2 tablespoonsLemon juice
  12. 7-8Curry leaves
  13. to tasteSalt

Cooking Instructions

    Take basmati rice in a pan. Add 4 times water, salt to taste and turmeric powder.

    Let it boil. Once done drain out the excess water by taking out rice in a strainer. Alternatively one can also use left over rice for this recipe.

    In a pan heat oil add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and let it temper. Then add asafoetida, chana dal, urad dal, peanut, green chilli, curry leaves salt and stir it for 2 minutes.

    Add the lemon juice and cook for a min, then add boiled rice and mix all the ingredients well and cook for about 3 min.

    South Indian styled Lemon Rice is ready to serve. Serve it hot with raita (yogurt) or chutney.
