Ingredients

  1. 1 cupChana dal
  2. 1 cupLauki/bottle gourd, chopped
  3. 1medium Tomato, chopped
  4. 1 teaspoonGarlic, chopped (optional)
  5. 1 teaspoonGinger, chopped
  6. 1/2 teaspoonRed chilli powder
  7. 1/4 teaspoonGaram Masala Powder (optional)
  8. 1/2-1 teaspoonCoriander powder
  9. 1/2 teaspoonMustard seeds
  10. 1kokum
  11. 1 teaspoonsugar (optional)
  12. leavesFew curry
  13. to tasteSalt
  14. 1 teaspoonChopped cilantro leaves

Steps

  1. 1

    Wash and clean chana dal. In a pressure add washed dal along with salt and turmeric powder and enough water to cover the dal. Pressure cook it till 3 whistles.

    Peel lauki/bottle gourd and cut into cubes.

  3. 3

    Prepare the tadka by adding oil to a pan. Add mustard seeds, chopped tomatoes and saute for 1-2 minutes. Add lauki and chana dalalong with spices and mix. Cover the pan and lower the flame.

    And bring it to a boil till the dal blends in with the tadka.Alternatively pressure cook for two whistles

  5. 5

    Adjust your seasonings and garnish it with cilantro leaves and serve.
