Chikki is an Indian sweet which is made out of different types of nuts or seeds, ghee, jaggery or sugar.
Sesame seeds are good source of fiber and protein. It reduces heart disease risks and controls blood pressure and blood sugar levels. Sesame seeds are full of antioxidants and it also provides vitamin B, B6, iron and copper which are good for our body. Sesame seeds improves our bone health and it helps to boost our immunity system.
It can be included in our meals easily by adding it into vegetables, curries, flatbreads, dry or fresh snacks or salads.
Chikki made out of sesame seeds is very tasty and at the same time it is very healthy too. I have mixed white and black sesame seeds here but it can be even made with any one type of sesame seeds.

Steps

30 min
  1. 1

Roast both sesame seeds on medium heat until they are fragrant and roasted well. Let it cool down.

  2. 2

Grate jaggery and put it in a non-stick pan on medium to low heat. When it melts completely, add ghee to it and mix it well. Keep on stirring continuously until it gets light and it changes colour.

  3. 3

When jaggery changes colour, add a drop of it in a bowl of water to check if it is ready to put peanuts inside. If the droplet of jaggery can be broken easily by biting it, jaggery is ready. Now add baking soda to it and give it a good mix.

  4. 4

Now add roasted sesame seeds to it. Mix everything well and turn off the heat.

  5. 5

Add the chikki mixture to the baking tin and spread it evenly. Now take it out on a greased surface and roll it thin with the help of a greased rolling pin. Cut it into desired shape and let it cool completely. Then break into pieces and store it in an airtight container.
