Cooking Instructions
- 1
Finely mince the onion, garlic, and carrot. Remove the tough stems and lightly crush the tomatoes.
- 2
Place the olive oil and garlic in a cool frying pan. Turn on the heat to low and slowly cook.
- 3
Once the garlic has turned golden and fragrant, add the onion and carrot. Cook patiently over low heat for 15 minutes.
- 4
After 15 minutes, raise the heat to medium. Add the ground meat, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Don't break apart the meat too much as it cooks. Cook thoroughly until browned.
- 5
Raise the heat to high and pour in the red wine. Cook off the alcohol and then add the tomatoes and water.
- 6
Once it begins to boil, add the bay leaves. Turn down the heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes, but remove the bay leaves after 10 minutes.
- 7
Occasionally stir the sauce as it simmers until it thickens, then it's done. (If it becomes too thick, add more water.)

I asked for input from my husband and finally came up with something good. I wrote this down from memory.I always make a lot and freeze it.About 6-7 ladles' worth!-In Step 1, if you have the time cook the vegetables slowly.-Use whatever amounts of ketchup and Worcestershire-style sauce you like. I always just make visual estimates, so I just wrote down generally what I remembered.-Use flour to give it a thickness. Adjust as necessary depending on the amount of moisture. Recipe by Manamaron. Authentic Italian Sauce Authentic Italian Sauce
I grew up in an Italian American home. As a tradition every Sunday my grandmother would cook a Sunday lunch for our family and friends. If you know anything about Italian family gatherings, it was a mad house but i wouldn't have traded it for anything. She has since passed. To continue this tradition I started to cook her sauce for my family. So please enjoy! John Talamelli -
Authentic Bolognese Sauce Authentic Bolognese Sauce
I use caramelized onions in curries and stews of course, but I also add it to grilled eggplant. It becomes a really nice 'hidden flavor'. I didn't upload this recipe since it seems like a lot of work, but I uploaded it this time for a friend who watches me making this all the time. All the steps are really easy, but please be sure to simmer the sauce long enough. It will taste totally different, compared to just cooking it briefly. Recipe by *ai* cookpad.japan -
Superb Meat Sauce Superb Meat Sauce
This is a recipe I came up with a few years ago. I found the usual Bolonese to be a bit lacking, so I tried adding hayashi rice roux. The hayashi rice roux really deepens the flavor. You can add some water if you like. Please don't simmer for too long. It's quite superb if you use 100% beef. In that case, double the amount of red wine, use two soup stock cubes, and simmer for 20~25 minutes. Season with sauce, sugar, salt and pepper. You can also omit the roux if you like.
