A healthy tiffin is must for kids. So why not make regular Idlis in a different way for them to enjoy healthy food during their break time.

Ingredients

30 minutes
2 servings
  1. 2 cupsIdli Batter
  2. 1/2 cupsliced onions
  3. 1/4 tsp sliced capsicum
  4. 1green chilli
  5. 10Curry leaves
  6. 1 tspmustard seeds
  7. 2 tspurad dal
  8. 1 tspchana dal
  9. 1/2 tspturmeric powder
  10. 2 tsppepper powder
  11. Salt as per taste
  12. 2 tbspghee

Cooking Instructions

30 minutes
  1. 1

Firstly using the Idli batter steam and prepare idlis. Here I have made small Idlis.

  2. 2

Cut these into half or you can even cut them in smaller size.

  3. 3

Now keep all the other ingredients ready.

  4. 4

In a pan heat ghee at low flame.

  5. 5

    Into this add mustard seeds.

  6. 6

When it starts to splutter add in the curry leaves and chopped green chilli.

  7. 7

Into this add in both the dal and stir and saute until they turn lightly golden brown.

  8. 8

Now it's time to saute onions till they turn light pink.

  9. 9

Next add in the capsicum and saute well.

  10. 10

Add pepper, turmeric and salt. Stir well. You can adjust the proportion of pepper as per your taste.

  11. 11

Saute all the ingredients well on low flame for 2-3 minutes.

  12. 12

Now put the halved Idlis into this and give a nice mix. Saute and cook for 2 minutes.

  13. 13

Pepper Idli fry is ready. Serve it as a healthy breakfast or pack it for a stomach filling lunch.
