Ingredients

  1. 1 CupBlack Channa(Soaked)
  2. 1Potato(chopped into cubes)
  3. 2Tomato(Chopped)
  4. 1Onion (Sliced)
  5. 1/4 CupToor Dal
  6. as required Tamarind - Lemon sized (soaked in water)
  7. to tasteSalt
  8. Toground into paste:
  9. 1/2 CupCoconut
  10. 1 1/2 tbspFried Gram
  11. 2-3 tbspSambhar Powder (Based on the spice in powder)
  12. 10-12Curry Leaves
  13. As required Coriander leaves
  14. 4 podsGarlic
  15. for Tadka::
  16. 1/2 tspmustard seeds
  17. 10Curry Leaves
  18. 4-5Garlic pods (crushed)
  19. HandfulCoriander leaves (Finely Chopped)
  20. 1 tbspOil

Cooking Instructions

    In a pressure cooker add toor dal, chopped tomato, chopped onion, chopped potatoes, add water enough to soak dal and vegetables for 1-2 whistles.

    Grind all the ingredients under (to be ground to paste) to a smooth paste.

    To the cooked dal and vegetables add Salt to taste, Ground Masala, and Tamarind juice, bring to a boil.

    In a small pan heat oil, add mustard, when they splutter add curry leaves, crushed garlic and chopped coriander.

    Add the prepared tadka to the sambhar or curry.

  6. 6

    Black Chanaand Potato Sambhar or curry is ready to be served with hot ragi mudde, chapathi, Dosa.
