It is a very simple recipe, which I am sure everyone will love.
The best part about it is that you can make this Masala Khichdi with leftover Dal and rice. And it tastes also amazing; even I always make from leftover dal rice.

Wash dal and rice together 3 to 4 times. Drain water and put the dal rice with 3 cups of water and salt in a pressure cooker.

Whistle 3-4 times and let it simmer for 4-5 minutes

Now turn off the heat and wait until steam has stopped, before opening the cooker. Mix it well. Dal rice should not be too soft.

Heat ghee on other pan. Add mustard seeds, cumin seed and asafoetida. When it cracks, add garlic chilli paste.

Then add chopped onion and saute nicely.

When onion becomes pink, add chopped tomato and saute again. Let the tomato cook nicely.

Add salt, turmeric, red chilli powder, coriander powder, and garam masala. Mix it well and cook for 2 minutes

Add cooked dal-rice. Mix gently. If you need, add some hot water

Garnish with coriander.

And lastly,add lemon juice.

Your Masala Khichdi is ready to eat.
Serve hot
If you use leftover dal rice, then start from step number 4. Serve with curd or raita or papad or pickle.
