A hamburger helper is a meal box consisting of pasta or rice with a variety of seasoning, and adds ground beef to make a one-dish meal. This is an evocative meal for my husband, and I decided to make it from scratch so there's no need for the boxed one :-)

材料

4-6 servings
  1. ground bison/beef 1 lb
  2. yellow/sweet/white onion 1 large (chopped)
  3. fresh Italian parsley for garnish (finely chopped)
  4. canola oil 1 tablespoon
  5. tomato paste 2 tablespoons
  6. garlic powder 1/2 teaspoon
  7. chili powder 1/2 teaspoon
  8. paprika powder 1/4 teaspoon
  9. ground nutmeg 1/4 teaspoon
  10. all-purpose flour 2 tablespoons
  11. water 2 cups
  12. whole milk 1 cup
  13. better than bouillon beef base 2 teaspoons
  14. dijon mustard 1 teaspoon
  15. Italian seasoning 1 teaspoon
  16. cane sugar 1/2 teaspoon
  17. Worcestershire sauce 1/2 teaspoon
  18. kosher salt 1 teaspoon or more to taste
  19. freshly ground black pepper 1/2 teaspoon or more to taste
  20. uncooked elbow pasta 8 oz
  21. milde cheddar cheese 1/2 cup (shredded)
  22. sour cream 1/4 cup

作り方

    Oil in a Dutch oven (3.5 qt) over medium heat.

    Add onion and cook until its translucent.

  3. 3

    Add the meat, then break it up and cook until browned.

    Stir in tomato paste and cook for 2 minutes.

    Stir in garlic/chili/paprika/nutmeg and cook for 1 minute.

    Stir in flour until well blended with no dry spots.

    Slowly pour in water while stirring to incorporate.

    Stir in milk/bouillon/mustard/herb/sugar/sauce/salt/pepper.

    Bring it to a boil, and stir in the pasta. Heat to medium.

    Uncover, stir occasionally and cook for 10-12 minutes.

    NOTE: Cook pasta until tender or it reaches desired texture

    Remove the Dutch oven from the heat, add cheese and cream.

    Stir until the cheese is melted and combined.

    Taste, adjust with salt and pepper as needed. Serve.

コツ・ポイント

Adding flour helps thicken the sauce. You can add more veggies such as bell pepper, carrot, broccoli, spinach or peas.
