It's sweet, tangy, spicy, perfect! Eaten with biriyani, but I think it works with just about anything.

Ingredients

20 mins
8-serving
  1. 1 Cupdates Pitted and chopped
  2. 1/4 CupTamarind
  3. 2 TablespoonsRed chilli Chilli
  4. 1 TeaspoonTurmeric Powder
  5. 1 TeaspoonCoriander Powder
  6. 1Onion
  7. 5Green chillies
  8. Coconut Oil (or vegetable oil)
  9. Salt

Cooking Instructions

20 mins
  1. 1

Soak the tamarind in hot water.

  2. 2

Heat oil. Add chopped onions and green chillies.

  3. 3

Saute for 3-4 minutes and add all the powders. Saute for another 2 minutes.

  4. 4

Chop the dates finely and add to the mix.

  5. 5

Squeeze out the tamarind and add the water to the mix. Add salt.

  6. 6

Leave on simmer. The dates should cook through completely and you should look for a jam like texture.

  7. 7

Keep tasting as you go and adjust the salt / spice / tanginess as you go. I found it just right, but my mom added jaggery when she made it cause it wasn't sweet enough.

It's such an easy recipe and you will have everyone asking you for the recipe. Direct them here when they do. ;)
