RED VELVET with Cream Cheese Frosting

  1. 1cup all purpose flour/maida
  2. 1tsp baking powder
  3. 1/2tsp salt
  4. 3tsp/ 1 tbsp cocoa powder (unsweetened)
  5. 1/2cup oil (vegetable/any oil)
  6. 1cup powdered sugar (grind granulated sugar to make it powdered)
  7. 1egg
  8. 1/2cup buttermilk (1/2 cup milk+1/2 tsp vinegar/lemon juice+rest for 10 mins=buttermilk)
  9. 1tsp vanilla essence
  10. 1tsp red food color
  11. 1/4cup hot coffee
  12. 1/2tsp vinegar
  13. 1/2cup cream cheese
  14. 1/2cup butter
  15. 1/4cup powdered sugar
  16. 1/2tsp vanilla essence
  17. pinch of salt

    1. Sift all the dry ingredients and set aside

  2. 2

    2. In another bowl add the wet ingredients. Whisk until no lumps present

  3. 3

    3. Add the dry ingredients and whisk all together in low speed. Do not overmix as we dont want too runny mixture

  4. 4

    4. Add the batter in a cake pan and bake it in a preheated oven at 190°C for 20 minutes

  5. 5

    5. For the frosting: whisk cream cheese and butter at high speed until smooth. Add powdered sugar, vanilla essence and salt and whisk in medium speed until even.

    Let the cake cool then frost the cake.

    7. Refrigerate the cake for about 30 minutes then Enjoy!!
