A traditional healthy breakfast dish from Maharashtra and Northern part of Karnataka. Kaunda means onion, and poha means flatten or beaten rice. In Karnataka we call it as Avalakki.Adding matar/peas to this gives a twist to the dish.

Ingredients

  1. 1 cuppoha
  2. 1/4 cupmatar/peas
  3. 1big onion
  4. 3green chillies
  5. 8-10curry leaves
  6. leavesCoriander
  7. 1 table spoonground nuts
  8. 1 table spoonphutana(fried chan dal)
  9. 1/2 tea spoonmustard seeds
  10. 1/2 tea spooncummin seeds
  11. 2 table spoonoil oil
  12. 1/2 tea spoonturmeric powder
  13. Juice of 1 lemon
  14. to tasteSalt
  15. 1/4 tea spoonsugar

Cooking Instructions

    Clean, wash and soak poha with sufficient water

  2. 2

    Blanch green peas/matar with little salt.

  3. 3

    Chop onion, green chillies, coriander leaves and keep aside

  4. 4

    Heat oil in a kadai add ground nuts, fry for a minute

  5. 5

    Add phutana,followed by mustard and cummin seeds, curry leaves

  6. 6

    Now add finally chopped onion and saute for a minute

  7. 7

    Add green chillies and cook.

  8. 8

    Now add green peas.

  9. 9

    Time to add turmeric powder,salt and sugar

  10. 10

    Add little coriander, keep remaining for later use.

  11. 11

    Keep an eye on poha, if it's soaked than drain the water and add to the mixture

  12. 12

    Mix gently

  13. 13

    Finally add remaining coriander leaves and lemon juice.

  14. 14

    Serve hot with cup of tea or coffee.
